Bringing the diversity of India to the people of Vienna

Amita Nathwani

Amita Nathwani was born in Dehra Dun, India in 1944.  Deeply influenced by Sri Aurobindo, she went to live in Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry in 1964.  She worked in the Ashram in the Publications Department and then as a Teacher of English.  In Uganda, she worked as a French and English Teacher.  She is married and has lived in Vienna, Austria since 1973.
As three volumes of the Devayan Epos had already been published in Bengali, she decided to bring this epic to a still wider public, by transcribing the text in Devanagari.  Eleven of the twelve volumes consisting of 1000 pages each have already been printed and the final, the twelfth, is in process.
Furthermore, two further books, written by Dr. Hajari, the author of Devayan, in English have been edited – The Glimpses of Devayan and the Voice of the Rishis.  These have now been translated and published in Hindi as well.
As the stories in the Devayan fascinated her, she has published the Tales from the Devayana containing stories from all parts of the epic.
